In winter, Elk Lake Resort becomes a true backcountry destination—accessible only by snowcat or snowmobile. Our new PistenBully 400 snowcat or Sno-Burban will shuttle resort guests a safe, heated, scenic, and unforgettable ride along the snowy Cascade Lakes Highway.
Departing from Dutchman Flat Sno-Park near Mt. Bachelor, the snowcat transports you and your gear comfortably to the lodge in about an hour. With panoramic windows, cozy seating, and the thrill of traveling through deep snow, it’s more than transportation—it’s your first taste of the Elk Lake experience.
Snowcat transport will be available Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout the winter season (holiday schedules vary). Advance reservations required with preference given to guests with overnight accommodations.

We’ll Take Care of Your Gear!
Join fellow adventurers on the thrilling 11-mile ski-in or snowmobile trail into Elk Lake Resort—a breathtaking backcountry journey, mostly downhill. We’ll take care of your gear! Simply meet the snowcat at the Avalanche Beacon sign at Dutchman Flat, and our team will have your bags ready when you arrive.
Details:
- $25 one-way, includes 2 items (e.g., tote, skis/poles, suitcase, cooler)
- We do not transport snowmobiles, fat tire bikes, playpens, or other large equipment
- Email reservations@elklakeresort.com with your preferred snowcat departure date and time, and the quantity of items needing transport
- Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice for all ski-in gear transport
Please note: Advanced reservations are required. Snowcat space is limited and prioritized for cabin guests. Depending on the number of items already booked, we may not have room for additional gear. Times are subject to change based on weather, snowcat schedules, and space.

These are the scheduled departure times. All guests must be ready, on the snowcat, and have their gear organized so the cat can depart on time. We will not wait for late arrivals, and no refunds are given if you miss the snowcat. Please plan to arrive a few minutes early to ensure a smooth and timely boarding process.
